Debt and the Credit Crisis

The last recession that our country experienced was, in truth, a mild one. The stock market and many corporate profits began to tank, but consumer spending seemed to dance merrily on through the recession without as much as a scratch. Consumer spending has long been the major engine driving the entire United States economy, which is why it is so vital that this facet of the economy be untouched even by the roughest recessive activity.

In recent decades, recessions have been like this, Bearish analysts as well as strategists have been grossly underestimating the voracious spending habits of the United States consumer, as well as their overall resilience.

Supreme Court Punts on Software Patent Controversy

Observers of the case had seen it as an opportunity for the Supreme Court to address unresolved issues about what should or should not be covered by a patent. Proponents of the status quo argue that they are defending intellectual property rights. Proponents of change say that over-broad patents stifle innovation. Among the difficult questions that the Justices declined to tackle with Bilski v. Kappos are, as reported by Claburn:

?the appropriateness of granting patents for 20 years when different industries have different market cycles and innovation time-lines; the appropriateness of allowing ideas to be patented at all; defining universally appropriate patent infringement penalties and legal remedies like injunctions; assuring patent examiners understand the patent applications they review and have adequate resources; and approaches for dealing with abusive patent litigation.

BC Iron Ore has reached an agreement with the Nyiyaparli People whose claim covered the southern part of its Nullagine Iron Ore Join Venture with Fortescue Metals Group, in the East Pilbara.

BC Iron said the agreement paves the way for the granting of several miscellaneous leases that cover the proposed Southern Haul Road, completing the link between the project mining areas and FMG’s rail infrastructure at the Christmas Creek Ore Processing Facility.

In a statement BC Iron said “Approvals from the Department of Mines and Petroleum for the Mining Proposal and Clearing Permit are on track for late July 2010 and once received, construction will immediately commence on the Northern and Central Haul Road as well as the Mining Centre.”

DRIVING carefully may not be enough to protect you in your car. Many drivers often forget about the potentially harmful effects of UV radiation through windscreens and window glass.

How much UV protection do your car windows or windscreen provide?
