MSC Industrial Direct to acquire Utah distributor
Melville-based MSC Industrial Direct Co. has signed an agreement to acquire Salt Lake City-based ATS Industrial Supply.
The deal is expected to close Jan. 31, company officials said.
MSC, a distributor of metalworking and maintenance, repair and operations supplies, will finance the acquisition of ATS, also a metalworking and MRO distributor, using available cash, although terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Along with its Salt Lake City location, ATS also has locations in Phoenix, Ariz. and Tijuana, Mexico.
The company generated approximately $34.5 million in sales in 2011. The acquisition will expand MSC’s distribution offerings in the Rocky Mountain region, where ATS is a dominant player distributing a broad range of industrial and cutting tools, abrasives, machinery, precision instrument supplies and other MRO-related supplies.
Its customers include small machine shops and fabricators to some of the largest aerospace and manufacturing companies in the country.
